Can I go on a swim with my hair extensions on? Although some would say that it is fine but we do not really recommend such especially with clip-in extensions. Seawater and chlorine can be damaging not only to your extensions but to your own natural locks as well. You can still take a swim though, but before doing that you must protect your tresses before and after to keep them in their best condition. If you’re still searching for the best hair care products to keep your locks protected, look no further, because you will find it here at Human Hair Extensions Online. We care for your hair as much as you do.

Nothing can be more frustrating than getting your locks damaged after a fun and relaxing swim at the pool or beach. Swimming surely is fun  and a really good form of exercise with numerous health benefits however, chlorine in pools and the salty seawater can greatly harm your tresses if they are not well protected. So, before heading out to the beach or pool,be sure to list down and provide all your hair-care needs so you won’t end up feeling sorry for your locks later on. To help you with that, we will provide you with informative hair care tips on how to protect your much loved tresses before and after you go on a swim.

Before Swimming

Hair is like sponge, it soaks up water. Since, pool and sea water can be hazardous to your locks, make sure to protect them before hitting the waters. You can wet your tresses first and apply some conditioner to it or maybe run oil through it to keep it from getting dry and brittle and to protect your hair cuticles as well. The water can no longer penetrate through your locks since the oil blocks the water from getting absorbed by it. Let the conditioner or oil sit for at least 30 minutes. You may also braid your locks or put it in a bun perhaps.  This will keep it in order while swimming, making it tangle-free. To provide more protection to it, you may wear a swimming cap if you like. This is the easiest and the most effective way of protecting it from the harmful UV rays of the sun and the pool chemicals.

After Swimming

Once you’re done, hit the showers and shampoo your tresses soon after. Be mindful of the product you use. Use clarifying shampoos which are sulfate free. When you’re coming from a swim at the pool, it would be best to use a swimmer’s shampoo. This type of shampoo is specially made to prevent green tints which are usually caused by swimming in chlorinated pools. You can also use products which contain Disodium EDTA, or Phytic Acid. These formulations can wash away mineral deposits and chlorine in your locks. If you’ve been swimming in the beach or lake, you can simply use a plain clarifying and moisturising shampoo. There’s no need for you to use a swimmer’s shampoo when swimming in natural bodies of water. You just need a clarifying product to remove traces of salt and dirt in your tresses. Be sure to moisturise your locks, though, condition it using a deep conditioning product to restore the oils stripped off by the shampoo.
