– How does European hair differ from other origins?
If you are new to the world of hair extensions, the range of hair ‘origins’ can be very confusing. There are so many terms that without a little inside knowledge it’s easy to feel overwhelmed.
As we all know there are a lot of different kinds of hair which are classified by their source or their texture. Let me try to simplify things as much as possible.
The term ‘European hair’ is used to describe an extremely glossy soft hair, which is fine in texture and naturally wavy – a perfect match for real Caucasian hair. It is also the best match for fine-haired individuals who would like to add more body and volume. But the only issue is that almost everybody claims to sell it, but hardly anybody actually has it.
‘European Hair’ extensions feature a high-quality hair sourced directly from Europe and should not be confused with ‘Euro Hair’ or ‘European Style’ hair which is actually made from Asian hair and processed to make it look like it is a genuine European hair.
Generally, genuine European hair comes from Southern-European countries like Italy and Spain. The hair is collected and is left unprocessed and retained in its natural and healthy condition.
European hair is made from 100% human hair and can be bought as either ‘Virgin’ or ‘Remy’ hair.
Virgin – Human hair that hasn’t been coloured or processed in any way.
Remy – Coloured/treated human hair that has its cuticle intact and hair is running the way it naturally grew.
Your European hair extensions may also be marketed as ‘Single Drawn’ or ‘Double Drawn’. Single Drawn uses different lengths of strand – some hair may be shorter by 2 inches so the tip would look tapered or thinner. Double Drawn features strands of the same length.
Other hairs like Asian, for example, are sleeker, straighter and thicker. Indian hairs have more volume and wave but can also be harder to manage while Russian hair that comes from Eastern Europe is naturally very straight, beautifully silky, very strong and extremely durable.
Many consider Virgin Russian hair as, unquestionably, the finest in the world. This is probably due to genetic and environmental factors. It is said to be the most beautiful hair in the world and is described as incredibly soft and shiny and, when felt, comparable to silk.
My top tip for the day is: Make sure your extension hair matches your natural hair in thickness, texture and density.
